• How to grow peonies

  Dig a hole in the soil 12-18 inches deep and loosen the soil on the sides of the hole. If planting multiple peonies, space them 3 to 4 feet apart to allow air movement. Add a small amount of fertilizer to the hole before planting the peonies so that it lines the hole.

  Peonies should be planted with their eyes upward and to the roots. The eyes are the pink or white buds at the top of the roots. Peonies should not be planted less than 2 feet below the soil surface. Peonies may not bloom if planted below this.

  Once the peonies are properly placed in the hole, backfill the hole with soil. Make sure the roots are no lower than 2 feet below ground level. Water fresh peonies thoroughly.
