A truly handsome variety, Gladiolus 'Performer' produces tall spikes of bold, showy flowers—each a deep, intense violet with the merest hint of white at its centre. Gladiolus 'Performer' mixes easily in a range of colour schemes, though we particularly love the way it pops against orange hues. This variety can reach up to 1.4m, so is best threaded throughout the back of a border or grown in a pot with a little support.  

When it comes to planting gladiolus corms, our mantra is little and often. They have a relatively short flowering period of around two weeks, so by staggering planting (a few every couple of weeks throughout April and May), you will extend your bloom time significantly. Plant your Gladiolus 'Performer' bulbs at a depth of three times their size, and make sure you choose a sunny, well-draining spot. Add plenty of grit if you garden on damp, clay soil, or consider growing in a pot filled with gritty mix instead.
